-DON’T use aerobars in a group or paceline, except at lead position, if you must;
-DON’T “half-wheel”… overlapping another rider’s rear wheel will earn you curses in 7
languages;
-DON’T surge in paceling, keep speeds even and/or gradually increasing in order to maintain group integrity;
-If you are unable to maintain pace when you get to the front, roll off promptly;
-Make your changes in position know (ie; in rolling off, go ahead and drift to the back);
-Lead rider is responsible to lead the group around hazards in pavement;
-Open up paceline when going uphill, drafting is less important as speeds drop and it is very easy to run into a rider
who slows even slightly or changes a gear;
-If you change position in a group, you are responsible to check for a clear way;
-When passing a rider, it is best to vocally let them know your intent;
-BE AWARE of other road users, there are other folks out there you know, don’t obstruct roadways by double-pacelining,
etc. (judgment call here!)
-It is best to obey traffic lights and regulations in general; Don’t cut through parking lots…make your
progress on the road predictable to drivers;
-If you are interested in keeping a paceline together, let the riders ahead know that the group is falling apart.
